The event applies to buyers of homes in Anderson Homes’ Santana Ranch neighborhood in Hollister. “Homeowners who buy during the fourth quarter can choose one of these charities and that will result in a $500 donation from the Anderson family,” said Ashleigh Anderson in the Anderson Homes announcement. This year, Anderson Homes selected five local nonprofits as recipients: Chamberlain’s Youth Services, Community Foundation for San Benito County, United Way of San Benito County, San Benito County Arts Council and BenitoLink. For the second year, Anderson Homes will continue its “Giving Back Starts at Home” year-end event that helps several San Benito County nonprofits and introduces them to residents. ![]()

The Book of Blood: From Legends and Leeches to Vampires and Veins Newquist, H.P. HP Newquist is an American author whose books cover a wide range of topics, from medicine and music to technology and terror. As a person that had to learn English as a second language, the curiosities of the structure and strangeness of spelling were always “ The Mother Tongue” is not a history book in any sense of the word, but simply a collection of amusing and fascinating pieces of trivia grouped by topic (barley though). It seemed to me that Bryson was also sympathetic to spelling reforms, which I am not against for certain words (enough…?) but feel that a great deal would be lost if we spelt words phonetically. Among many inconsistencies and illogicalities – as we all well know – the author also manages to make a case for the peculiar spelling of different words. Bill Bryce is also brave enough to tackle the bane of all English speaking people – spelling. The real meat of the book appears in the latter chapters where a large number of surprising facts appear ( Shakespeare introduced 1,685 new words to the language) as well as how the definitions of words changed over time. ![]() ![]() ![]() 1987 by James Thurber (Author) 149 ratings School & Library Binding £4.51 3 Used from £4.51 Paperback £5.08 13 Used from £4.22 6 New from £5. ![]() Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Benin, Bermuda, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Cape Verde Islands, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, Colombia, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ecuador, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), Gabon Republic, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Greenland, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Macau, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mayotte, Mexico, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, New Zealand, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, Suriname, Swaziland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Virgin Islands (U.S. James Thurber Many Moons School & Library Binding 1 Aug. ![]() ![]() ![]() But instead of dying, Mia was found by the shadows (a little cat shadow that she named Mister Kindly, to be more specific…and let’s just take a moment to honor that nomenclature for a murderous, fear-eating shadow being), escaped, and managed to get taken under the wing of a sort of pre-assassin-in-training-trainer. Right, so 10-year-old Mia Corvere saw her father killed, her mother and younger brother hauled away to be imprisoned for like, the rest of forever, and herself stolen away to be silently and secretly murdered. It basically sums up the entire book and, honestly, I just like the way its worded: “In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.” There you have it.
